The National Association of School Resource Officers established National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day on February 15 every year. This was established to show appreciation to our school-based law enforcement officers and let our SROs know how much we appreciate them bridging the gap between law enforcement and youth. SROs fill a three-part role in their jobs: informal mentors/counselors, law educators, and law enforcement officers to students and community.
Proven Benefits of the School Resource Officer program:
Prevention/minimization of property damage in school and surrounding area
Prevention of student injuries
Reduction of need for schools to call 911
Reduction of likelihood students will get a criminal record
Increase likelihood that students get help from social service and health care systems
Increase the feelings of safety among students and staff
